The Saraya Bandar Jissah project (www.sarayabandarjissah.com) is to be built in the tucked away "Qantab" beach cove near Muscat. The project brought to you by the partnership between Omran (the Omani government's tourist development company) and Saraya Holdings (chaired by Saad Al Hariri) will include the building of residental units, commercial outlets and luxury hotels that will help you "discover your senses".
Many local residents and expats enjoy frequenting this lovely beach spot during their free time. With the development of such projects, much of the locals' beach front is in essence taken from them, as well as, the untouched natural landscape which adds to the mystique and charm of Oman. Currently, the only buildings are ruins of an old village and a small coffee shop.
According to urban legend, the original villagers from the Al-Qasmi tribe fled Qantab about a century ago to escape an epidemic where many villagers reportedly died. A majority are rumored to have relocated to Sharjah in the UAE. There are several cemeteries on the way into the Qantab beach behind a stone wall. Saraya Holdings held several charity events during Ramadan in the neighboring Qantab village.
