Substantial arms cache seized Sohar, Oman

Arms seized at Sohar Port

The Arabic caption says, 'Sultanate of Oman police managed to seize weapons in a container at Sohar port. Date: July, 8, 2013.'

Note the B 'Blow' logo on the boxes; it is listed as a Turkish gun manufacturer on following website:

Royal Oman Police and other security units seized a container at Sohar port loaded with hundreds of pistols today (heading for external destination). The investigation is under way. Waiting for updates.

Approximately 30,000 weapons were seized and were headed for an external location (allegedly Turkey to Yemen). At least nine Omani nationals have been arrested in conjunction with the seizure. Sohar Port 'Mena Sohar' is located just north of the main area of Sohar near Liwa. Most shipping has been directed there since Sultan Qaboos port in Muttrah, Muscat was designated a tourist port about two years ago. Rumored to have been the home of Sinbad the Sailor, historically Sohar was one of the largest ports in Arabia.
